Advanced Biomechanical Assessment in Long Eaton
Discover How Your Movement Patterns are Holding You Back
Persistent pain in your feet, knees, hips, or lower back often points to a subtle loading imbalance when you walk or run. Traditional treatments frequently focus on the painful symptom, ignoring the mechanical root cause. Our biomechanical gait analysis combines clinical expertise with advanced digital technology to find exactly where your system is breaking down, providing a clear path back to pain-free movement.
Supporting Your Journey Back to Pain-Free Movement
Biomechanical imbalances can ripple upwards through your entire body. Our HCPC-registered podiatrists carry out detailed gait analyses to address a wide range of chronic lower-limb issues. We frequently help patients with:
Foot & Heel Pain
- Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Pain: Overcoming sharp heel pain by identifying and offloading localised high-pressure zones.
- Achilles & Tendon Pain: Reducing structural pull on the tendon by optimising foot rollover and contact angles.
- Metatarsalgia & Morton's Neuroma: Relieving burning forefoot pain through precise, targeted pressure deflections.
- Stiff Big Toe (Hallux Limitus): Restoring joint transition comfort and natural propulsion mechanics.
- Ancillary Tendon Issues: Targeted support for posterior tibial (arch) and peroneal (ankle) strain.
Ankle, Knee, Hip & Back
- Recurrent Ankle Sprains: Building stability pathways to address chronic structural weakness.
- Shin Pain & Calf Strains: Balancing loading speeds to ease chronic muscle fatigue along your lower legs.
- Knee Pain (Runner's Knee & Patellofemoral Pain): Pinpointing rotational hip issues or flat feet causing joint compensation.
- Degenerative Joint Strain: Protecting osteoarthritic knees and hips through precise, shock-absorbing load management.
- Hip & Lower Back Pain: Realigning gait asymmetries that place uneven structural loads on your pelvis and spine.
Everyday & Work-Related Loading
- Long Shifts & Standing: Relieving pain for NHS staff, retail workers, and trade professionals who spend hours on hard surfaces.
- Safety & Work Footwear Comfort: Tailoring structural support that integrates seamlessly into heavy safety boots.
Evidence-Based Diagnostics Backed by Manufacturing Expertise
When you purchase a generic, over-the-counter insole, you are using a mass-produced product designed for an “average” foot. But your movement patterns, structural bone shapes, and lifestyle goals are completely unique to you.
Clinical F-Scan Pressure Analysis
We do not rely on visual guesswork. F-Scan measures exactly how pressure moves through your foot in real-time, identifying high-pressure hotspots, timing asymmetries, and rollover patterns that video alone cannot see.
The Entire Kinetic Chain
We assess your joint range of motion (including ankle dorsiflexion and big toe function), static alignment, and functional strength (glutes, calf, and intrinsic foot control) to treat your body as a fully connected system.
Deep Manufacturing Heritage
Our practice owner, Steve Bailey, brings unmatched expertise to your care. As an MSc researcher and the former owner of BP Orthotics Ltd, Steve has a deep, technical understanding of orthotics design and manufacturing. Our team regularly delivers advanced biomechanics training to both private and NHS healthcare providers, ensuring your treatment is grounded in the absolute latest clinical evidence.
We match the support to your shoes, your sport, and your lifestyle
Footwear advice is a core pillar of our clinical assessment. The wrong shoe—or a shoe that fails to match your specific loading profile—can keep you trapped in a cycle of pain. We carefully evaluate your footwear’s size, width, and suitability to ensure any intervention works in perfect harmony with your lifestyle.
Orthotics are not one-size-fits-all. We only prescribe them when they add genuine, measurable value, utilising a structured spectrum of options:
- Chairside Insoles: Offering rapid, temporary support and immediate comfort while acute tissues heal.
- Bespoke Custom Orthotics: Engineered directly from your 3D digital scanning and F-Scan pressure data to manage long-term biomechanical alignment.
- Sport-Specific Setups: Slim-profile setups designed specifically for running shoes, football boots, cycling shoes, or hiking footwear.
- Targeted Offloading Solutions: Customised designs featuring precise local cutouts to relieve painful heel and forefoot hotspots.
Preparing for your biomechanical assessment
To ensure we capture the most accurate diagnostic and movement data during your session, here is how to prepare for your appointment:
- Bring Your Shoes: Please bring 3 to 4 pairs of your most frequently worn shoes. This must include your running or athletic shoes, your everyday work footwear (including safety boots or NHS work shoes), and your most-worn casual shoes or boots, alongside any insoles you currently wear.
- What to Wear: We need to clearly see your ankles, knees, and lower legs as you move. Please wear or bring a pair of loose, comfortable athletic shorts.
- Appointment Duration: A comprehensive biomechanical and gait analysis takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes to complete.
- Medical Questionnaire: Optionally download and print our medical history questionnaire to bring to your appointment to determine the effectiveness of any treatments we may use.
Frequently Asked Questions About Biomechanics & Orthotics
Will I definitely need orthotics after a gait analysis?
Not always. Some patients require changes in footwear and targeted exercise rehabilitation alone to resolve their symptoms. We only recommend orthotics when we can show you clear, objective evidence on your F-Scan pressure map that structural offloading is required to heal your tissues or prevent recurring strain.
Will custom orthotics fit into all of my shoes?
Modern custom orthotics are highly streamlined and designed specifically for the footwear you use most frequently. We can craft ultra-slim designs for formal work shoes, high-volume options for athletic running trainers, or heavy-duty shock-absorbing options for work boots.
Do I have to wear orthotics forever once I start?
No. For acute conditions like plantar fasciitis, orthotics are often used as a temporary structural “splint” to give damaged tissues the chance to heal. Once your tissues have recovered and your functional strength is rebuilt through rehab, we can often phase them out. For patients with permanent structural bony variations, we may recommend them long-term to prevent pain during high-impact sports.
Ready to find the root cause of your pain?
Putting off an assessment often means letting a minor mechanical strain develop into a frustrating physical limit. Whether you are aiming to run your next marathon, stand comfortably through a long work shift, or simply walk your dog pain-free, our specialists are ready to help you move with complete confidence.
