Safe, Effective Nail Surgery Solutions in Long Eaton
Say goodbye to painful, infected ingrown nails for good
An ingrown toenail can turn simple daily tasks into an ordeal—making putting on your normal shoes, walking to the local shops, or enjoying a game of football feel excruciating. When conservative treatments fail to provide lasting relief, minor nail surgery is the ultimate, permanent clinical answer. Performed gently under a local anaesthetic, our minor procedures quickly resolve painful, infected, or curved nails, helping you return to your favourite activities with total physical freedom.
Permanent relief from chronic nail pain and recurring infections
Our HCPC-registered podiatrists perform sterile, highly controlled minor nail surgeries for patients of all ages, from active teenagers to seniors. We regularly resolve:
Ingrown and Infected Toenails
- Acute Ingrown Toenails: Treating nails that have pierced the surrounding skin, causing severe pain, redness, swelling, and bleeding.
- Recurring Nail Infections: Resolving chronic, weeping infections that require repeated rounds of antibiotics from your GP.
- Hypergranulation Tissue: Removing the highly sensitive "overgrown" skin tissue that forms when an ingrown nail is left untreated.
Curved and Thick Toenails
- Involuted (Highly Curved) Nails: Addressing nails that naturally curl deep into the sides of the toe, causing intense pinching pressure.
- Thickened or Damaged Nails: Safely removing nails that have become permanently thick, split, or deformed due to past trauma or fungal infections.
- Athletic Nail Trauma: Resolving black, loose, or repeatedly damaged nails common in runners, footballers, and rugby players.
An all-inclusive surgical care package
The thought of minor surgery can naturally feel a little daunting. That is why we have designed our clinical pathway to be exceptionally gentle, thoroughly reassuring, and completely transparent with no hidden costs.
Painless Procedure
We ensure your toe is completely numb before any work begins. We administer a highly precise local anaesthetic block at the base of the toe. Once the anaesthetic takes effect, you will feel absolutely no pain during the procedure—only minor, light pressure.
97%+ Permanent Success Rate
We use a specialised chemical agent called phenol to gently cauterise the active growing cells at the side of the nail (phenolisation). This prevents that specific painful section of nail from ever growing back, offering an outstanding 97%+ permanent success rate.
All-Inclusive Aftercare Package
We do not just perform the procedure and leave you to manage. Our surgical fee is fully inclusive of your sterile surgical procedure (Partial or Total Nail Avulsion), your post-op dressing, a take-home aftercare dressing kit, and all necessary clinical redressing appointments until your toe has completely healed.
Helping young athletes and active movers get back in the game
Ingrown toenails are incredibly common in active teenagers, school sports players, and runners. The combination of narrow athletic footwear, repetitive kicking or running, and sweat-softened skin creates the perfect environment for a nail border to pierce the flesh. This can make school PE, weekend matches, or running training completely unbearable.
We understand that patients—especially younger ones—may feel highly anxious about needles or clinical procedures. Our team excels at gentle, empathetic communication, taking the time to explain every step in plain English and ensuring a calm, low-stress environment. By permanently resolving the ingrown nail, we help get you or your child back to sport, school, and active lifestyles safely and without lingering pain.
Preparing for your minor nail procedure
To ensure your appointment goes smoothly and you remain completely comfortable, please follow these simple pre-surgery instructions:
- Eat Normally: Please do not fast. Eat a light meal or snack before arriving at the clinic to ensure your blood sugar levels remain stable.
- Bring Open-Toed Footwear: Your toe will be wrapped in a very thick, secure, and bulky protective dressing after the procedure. Normal shoes or trainers will not fit. You must bring a wide, open-toed sandal, flip-flop, or adjustable slide to wear home.
- Arrange a Ride Home: Because the local anaesthetic temporarily numbs your entire toe and can slightly affect your reactive control, you are clinically not permitted to drive yourself home. Please arrange for a friend, family member, or taxi to transport you.
- Appointment Duration: We set aside a full 60 minutes for your surgery day. This ensures we never rush, allowing ample time for the anaesthetic to work, the procedure itself, and applying your protective dressings.
- Medical Questionnaire: Optionally download and print our medical history questionnaire to bring to your appointment to determine the effectiveness of any treatments we may use.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nail Surgery
Does the local anaesthetic injection hurt?
We use ultra-fine needles to make the injection as comfortable as possible. You will feel a quick, sharp pinch and a minor stinging sensation lasting for about 5 to 10 seconds. After that, your toe will become completely warm, heavy, and numb. We always thoroughly test the toe before beginning to ensure you cannot feel a single thing.
How much of my nail will be removed?
In the vast majority of cases, we only perform a Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA). This involves removing only the narrow, painful sliver of nail at the side (approx. 10-15%). The remaining 85% of your nail is left completely intact, healing to look neat, flat, and normal. We only perform a Total Nail Avulsion (TNA) to remove the entire nail if the nail plate is extremely thick, heavily deformed, or infected across its entire width.
How long does it take to heal, and when can I play sport again?
The raw area where the nail sliver was removed typically takes between 4 to 6 weeks to heal completely with a fresh skin layer. You can walk comfortably the next day and return to light work or school duties within 24 to 48 hours. However, we advise avoiding high-impact running, football, swimming, and heavy physical training until we have clinically confirmed the area is fully healed during your follow-up appointments.
Ready to permanently resolve your nail pain?
Putting off an assessment often means letting an ingrown toenail become severely infected, requiring repeated GP antibiotics and limiting your physical lifestyle. Whether you want to return to competitive sports, walk comfortably on your commute, or help your child run pain-free, our experienced team is here to support you at every step.
